Black vs White to the White House

Barack Obama has made history as the first black US presidential nominee as he declared himself victorious over Hillary Clinton on the last day of voting in the Democratic primaries race.

He will face Republican candidate John McCain on the battle to the White House. As the campaign starts to the November election, we cannot deny the fact that the difference in the race of the two persons will still be a big factor in the election. There maybe still some people who shun the idea of a first black president. US is a nation that has long been divided on issues about race. Will Obama on his way as the most powerful person in the world be the tool for that change? Or will he be make another history of being the first black presidential candidate defeated in the election?

It is also interesting to note their age difference being McCain 71 and Obama just 46. It won’t only be a battle between races but also between ages. Bosses and world leaders are becoming younger these days and McCain may not be able to secure the support of young people.

At the end of the day the issues that the two candidates are pushing for are the important things that will help them to victory.  George W Bush was not able to manage the issue on Iraq properly as shown in the result of his approval rating. This will be passed on to whoever succeeds him.

It will certainly be a close race.

Do you think that Obama will pick an experienced VP and McCain pick a youthful one?
A lot of people think Clinton will be the Democratic VP but this will create a big target for McCain, as Obama and Clinton have spent the last 5 months viciously attacking each other.

I think Obama is considering John Edwards but he might pick Clinton though because she’s more experienced and popular.

You’re right McCain needs to pick a youthful one to balance off his age. Do you think an actor like Schwarzenneger will be a good choice? In Philippines, actor wins easily during elections.

I definitely agree with you about Edwards.. I really think Obama might pick him..

For McCain.. he might need to pick someone a bit more religious. Actors get elected easily in America too, Ronald Reagan was in several movies before he became president.
They would have to change the constitution to pick Arnold though, since you need to be born in America to become president and the VP must be able to assume the position at any time. I think they might make this amendment in the next few years, but not in time for this election.

There was another actress who ran against Arnold for the California Gubernatorial election last time, but lost. Maybe you should research and make a post about her. She is called Mary Carey. She’s quite famous I think.

John Edwards is definitely not an option for Obama. Just after he endorsed Obama he said “Won’t happen … It’s just not something I am interested in.” I think maybe attorney general or something, but not VP.
